Trump Has High Chance of ‘Dying in Prison’ if He Loses November Election: Former Prosecutor
The future continues to look dim for former President Donald Trump, especially if he loses the 2024 presidential election, according to one former federal prosecutor who says there is an “appreciable chance” he could be in prison for the rest of his life. And much of this is due to the number and scope of criminal prosecutions against him, said Harry Litman, a former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania during the Clinton administration.
Litman was talking to former Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) on his podcast Wednesday, The Hill reports.
“If he doesn’t win, he has an appreciable chance of dying in prison,” Litman said. “The whole timeline, the whole crisis point of November goes away. So, if he doesn’t win on [November] the fifth, those cases lie ready to bring.”
Frankly, this couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. And we must hope Litman is correct because Trump winning the 2024 election would be bad for many of us on a grand scale. If Trump wins the election, he’ll almost certainly use his authority over the Department of Justice to erase the two criminal cases and use the power of the office of the presidency to escape prosecution in Georgia’s state 2020 election case.
Of course, Trump already has 34 convictions of felony business fraud under his belt, stemming from his New York hush-money case. While he’s already appealed the conviction, his sentencing is scheduled for July 11. He faces up to four years in prison for the charges.
This is a hopeful situation, considering all his lying and scheming.
Litman, however, predicts Judge Juan Merchan will sentence the ex-president to a few months in prison thanks to those business fraud charges. Unfortunately, there’s the chance he won’t do time for years, pending appeal.
I can see Trump doing something like this. Lie, cheat, steal, he’ll do whatever it takes to stay out of prison. If any one of us tried this trick you can bet we’d be facing hard time. But he’s wealthy and can climb like a sewer rat out of bad situations with a little help from his conniving friends.
Trump faces three other cases, including a D.C.-based federal prosecution for election fraud and his actions that spurred the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots. Then, of course, there’s now his infamous Florida-based federal case for mishandling classified documents and trying to scupper the government’s effort to retrieve them. The Georgia state case over efforts to overturn the 2020 election is also hanging over his head.
Unfortunately, both cases have been delayed indefinitely, and the D.C. case is on pause while the Supreme Court seems to take forever to consider Trump’s bid for immunity.
As to whether Trump or Biden will win the 2024 presidential election, that’s pretty much up in the air. A poll conducted by the Hill/Decision Desk HQ average of polls.
Trump currently holds a 1-point lead over President Biden in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ average of polls.
Don’t kid yourself. This election is going to be a sh*tshow. Just like in 2020 and 2016. Man am I ever hoping Biden wins. I have faith in him. I also have faith that if Trump wins, he’ll drive this country right into the ground.
So I hope, and I practically pray (sorry, I’m not religious) that Litman is correct.
